Une Histoire Triste: The Parisian Pigeon

Two days ago on my way home late at night I found a pigeon sitting on my apartment doorstep. It was late at night so I closed the door carefully behind me so that I wouldn't hurt or scare him. The next mourning on my way out (pour faire des soldes!) the pigeon had migrated into the building and was sitting quietly in front of someone's apt. door. Worried that something was really wrong with the poor bird, I called M to have him call animal control/outreach/rescue/whateveryoucallit but when he went to go look for the pigeon, he was gone. Sighing with relief, we hoped that it had found its way through the garden and was fine! Unfortunately, that night when we came home, the pigeon had made its way across the garden and had stationed itself in the doorway of our building. Seeing as it was too late to call animal rescue, we left the call to today. Unfortunately, when M and I left this morning for work, we were devastated to find that the pigeon had not moved and was lying dead in the exact spot that we had left it the night before. 

Now, I know that it is just a pigeon, but a pigeon is still a living thing. Somehow I feel personally responsible for his death, even though he probably would have died even if we had called animal rescue. I have been thinking of the pigeon all day and how M had to pick it up and throw it away. What an awful way to go - and I cant help thinking that in the last two days he had slowly migrated closer and closer to us almost as if he were asking for help. I know thats probably going way too far... but I cant help but feel guilty for not trying harder to save him. 

R.I.P. Parisian Pigeon. 

Snow!

Today, Paris got an almost legit snowfall! As today was my first day back at work, I was really dreading waking up at 6:45am to treck up to St. Denis in the dark, BUT, when i left the apt in the dark it was already snowing.....then when I got off the metro in St. Denis this is what I saw:


I tought a couple classes and on my way to my afternoon classes, still snowing, kids throwing snowballs, it looked like:


And a great way to end the day: my last two classes were cancelled! j'ai passee une bonne rentree je pense!

This is what is hanging over our bed now. M and I picked it up at BHV right before Christmas and just got to putting it up late Saturday night. I love it!

I'm a lazy bum and did nothing but watch movies all through the Holiday season!

Yep, thats right, over the past two weeks I have spent my days waking up at 11 am and watching movies all day. When my alarm wakes me up at 6:45am tomorrow, I will be plunged back into the real world - but before that, I thought I would send out a list of the awesome movies I saw over the past few weeks:

Kit Kittredge: An American Girl














I watched this because I am a HUGE American Girl fan and I love me some Abigail Breslin. I thought it would be a cute, sweet movie but it turned out to be really awesome! Great story with great characters and a total family tear-jerker movie. Totally reccomend it - for everyone!


Slumdog Millionaire























I give this one 5/5 stars! I have been waiting for this movie for a while because I am a huge SKINS fan and love Dev Patel and M.I.A. has a ton of songs featured in it so I have been looking forward to the awesomeness that is Danny Boyle paired with M.I.A. and Dev Patel and
was blown away! This movie is SO cleverly done and just a spectacular film! It will definately be a DVD purchase! Best movie I saw all break!!!

Seven Pounds


















I watched this one on a whim and was impressed. Seeing as the last Will Smith movie I watched was I Am Legend, I didn't have such high hopes. This movie drew me in from the beginning and I had no idea what the movie was about until the end but wasnt turned off from it at all. Very depressing but quite a good movie. Will Smith's acting ability really shone through and the ending totally made the whole movie worth it!

Pineapple Express

















Good laugh! Heart Seth Rogan and there were some great lines that caused me and M to truely laugh out loud! James Franco is absolutely fabulous! Another one to add to the Superbad, Knocked Up, 40 Year Old Virgin collection for sure!

Milk












My sister told me I should watch this one. Sean Penn was incredible in it - absolutely deserves an award for his performance!! Overall, it was a good movie. I dont think I got too into the movie and I dont really know why - but it was some very impressive acting and quite an all-star cast!

Yes Man
















Jim Carey has done it once again! On the level with Liar Liar this one is. I watched it in really shitty quality as well and was still laughing my ass off! And once again, Will from ALIAS plays a not-so-likable character which was a nice surprise to see his adorable face!

Burn After Reading

















bleh. I dont know if I just wasnt in the mood for this movie or if I just didnt get it. With such an amazing cast I was expecting something truely awesome....but it was kinda boring and just....bleh.


Vicky Christina Barcelona

















I have been waiting to see this movie for AGES but M thought it was too much of a "girlie" movie and didnt want to go see it. LOVED it. Penelope Cruiz is insane in it and I loved all the great shots of Barcelona and the crazy twisted relationships going on. Great, great film. Bravo Woody.

Im sure I have forgot some and I am leaving out the partial movies that I have seen like "The Tale of Despereaux," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and "Che" (the last of which I will finish this week and keep you updated! I really want to see the rest of Benjamin Button but the video I was watching lost the sound half way through so I stopped watching.

Off to work tomorrow....sigh.

Happy 2009!

Happy New Year everybody! I hope all bodies have healed from wild new years eve partying!

M and I had a rather-too-wild party chez nous on NYE which was entirely way too dramatic with a visit from the SAMU and many random but enjoyable high school faces! The worst part was that out of all of our 30 something friends there was one who seemed to have been a rather sneaky little thief who stole a 160G ipod, a burburry scarf, a camera and cash out of someone's wallet. Very anti-new years spirit! So, that brought down the whole spirit of the party....but overall I think it was a very successful party that just got a little out of hand!

The bestest part of our new years celebration was the awesome presents of none other than misses Sophster! M and my bestest friend in the whole entire world! And even though someone jacked her iPod she made the whole party awesomely fabulous and we love love love love love her!

Ok, off to watch Pineapple Express and stay in bed all day with the boyf!

I got these awesome blue christmas tree lights at Carrefour (loves it!) for like 10euros. They are ec0-friendly and use very little electricity. Also, since the french are awesome, my tree is potted and still very alive. The guy at the marche Grenelle said that we can plant it and use it next year....great idea but the likelyhood of that happening is rather slim....
